Pre-Solar Eclipse Event - October 18
PRE-SOLAR ECLIPSE EVENT
Hopkinsville, KY, October 13, 2014 – The Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention & Visitors Bureau will host “The Astronomy Channels” Lonnie Puterbaugh, along with Dr. Spence Buckner, Associate Physics Professor at Austin Peay University again at the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park on October 18th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will educate and familiarize everyone with safe solar viewing techniques in anticipation of the Solar Eclipse which will occur in just under 3 years on August 21st, 2017.
The days highlight will be observing our nearest star, the sun and its different layers through high-quality telescopes. The weather forecast looks sunny for Saturday and Lonnie will be bringing some materials from NASA specifically targeted to teachers at the middle school to high school level. It will also highlight observing our nearest star, the Sun, near the peak of its approximately eleven year solar cycle.
Everyone is invited to attend this event that will be located near the Pow Wow grounds at 100 Trail of Tears Way.
